Homeschooling is an incredible opportunity to take control of your child’s education, but it does come with some important responsibilities. If you’re feeling unsure about what’s required, don’t worry—we’re here to help!
Your Role as a Homeschooling Parent
When you register your child as a homeschooler with the Department of Education, you become the facilitator of their learning.
Wait, what? So I’m a teacher now?!
Don’t panic! You’re not a teacher—think of yourself as your child’s educational support person, aka their greatest cheerleader! 🎉 The majority of homeschooling families—around 98%—don’t have a teaching background. Euka makes homeschooling accessible, no matter your experience level.
Here’s how we make it manageable for you:
Comprehensive Curriculum: Euka provides a fully structured, self-paced program organised by terms, weeks, subjects, and lessons
Promotes Independence: Many children can start lessons on their own, even early in the morning, giving parents time to focus on other responsibilities
Minimal Supervision Required: Most students only need occasional assistance during their 2-3 hours of daily lessons, freeing up time for you
Detailed Resources: With answer pages and detailed lesson plans, you’ll always have the guidance you need to support your child
Flexibility: There are no fixed schedules or deadlines, so you can structure learning around your family’s needs
What If I Work?
Balancing work and homeschooling might seem daunting, but many working families—whether dual-income or single-parent households find it achievable with Euka.
Here’s why:
Independent Learning: Euka’s program is designed to encourage independence. Kids can work at their own pace and ask for help only when needed
Time-Saving Setup: With lesson plans pre-organised and ready to go, your time is freed up to focus on other priorities
Adaptable Schedule: You can structure learning to fit your family’s routine, whether that’s during the day, evenings, or weekends
Registering Your Child as a Homeschooler
In Australia, you are legally required to register your child as a homeschooler with your state’s Department of Education.
Here’s what that means:
Lodging Your Application: Parents are responsible for submitting a homeschooling application to their state’s Department of Education
Approval Process: The Department will review your application, and if approved, you’ll receive a registration notice
Reporting Obligations: Parents must provide evidence of their child’s learning during their registration period to meet reporting requirements
Euka’s Part
It’s important to understand that Euka is not a school. Simply enrolling in Euka does not mean your child is officially registered as a homeschooler.
Here’s what you need to know:
Euka does not correspond with the Department of Education or your child’s current school on your behalf
As the parent/facilitator, you must lodge your homeschooling application and provide the school with the Department’s approval letter when your application is successful
Euka supports you by helping to create the necessary Education Plans for registration and offering tools for Government Reporting through our platform
Euka does not provide Live/1:1 teacher-led lessons, but we provide everything you need to homeschool your child, even if you aren’t a teacher
How Euka Simplifies Your Obligations
Registration Assistance: After enrolling, we can help compile Education Plans to make your application process stress-free with our Government Registration Service
Reporting Made Easy: Use our Government Report Creator to upload work samples, create transcripts, and generate reports, ensuring you meet Department requirements
Homeschooling might seem overwhelming at first, but with Euka, you’re never alone. We provide the tools and support to make your homeschooling journey as smooth and successful as possible—no teaching experience required!
