Understanding Assignments for the Grade 11 and 12 Euka Program

At Euka, we strive to provide the best education for your child. As part of our program, we have Grade 11 and 12 Euka courses that help students prepare for their senior studies and future career opportunities. In this article, we will be discussing assignments and how they are used in our program.

Do Parent Planners and Parent Assessment Checklists Need to be Filled Out?

One of the key features of the Grade 11 and 12 Euka program is that Parent Planners or Parent Assessment Checklists are not required to be filled out. This is because we have a different process in place that helps students report their progress to the Department, as outlined below.

Accessing Assignments

If your child is enrolled in the Grade 11 or 12 Euka program, once you are logged into the Student Portal, you will notice that on the right-hand side of your screen, there is an "Assignments" section you can click into.

You can also find this at the end of the Week 10 Lesson for every subject.

The Assignments section lets you view and click on each assignment for every term, providing access to assignment details and marking criteria.

When you click the "View" option for the desired assignment in each term, you'll see an overview of the assignment and be able to download both the assignment file and the marking rubric from this section.

The "Helpful Resources" section, shown below, if applicable, offers an example from past Euka students for the selected assignment, along with useful websites and additional resources that Grade 11/12 students can refer to for guidance.

Uploading/Marking Assignments

Once your child has completed an assignment, they can upload/attempt an assignment through the Assignments section within the Student Portal by selecting the term and the desired assignment.

You can also access this section via the student portal at the end of the Week 10 lesson; there will be a direct link to the relevant assignment for the subject within the Assignment section.

Simply click "Attempt Assignment," select the file containing the completed assignment on your device, ensure all files are reviewed, and confirm that any provided links are publicly accessible to our markers before submitting.

Important: If you are having difficulty uploading, please check the file size. The site has a 20MB and 5 item limit which is unable to be adjusted. You will need to edit your assignments and compress any images in order for the file size to be smaller.

Please note that our teachers mark assignments in bulk every two weeks for Assessed/University Pathway students. Parents will be notified via email once the mark is complete. You will be able to access the feedback directly through the student portal in the Assignment section under "Marked Submissions".

If the grade falls below 65% or a student wishes to re-attempt the assignment to receive a higher mark, then students can opt to re-attempt the assignment after considering the teacher's feedback via the Assignment section.

We will then mark the latest assignment and that will be the new mark for the student. This way, students have a chance to showcase their genuine capabilities.

Students may receive a "Re-submission Required" notification for their uploaded assignment, which will include the reasoning and feedback. This means the student must re-attempt and resubmit the assignment for our teachers to mark.

How Many Assignments Should Students Complete?

The focus before the end of the year will be to submit at least three assignments for each subject so that students may be awarded a grade upon completion. Any subjects with less than two assessment items will yield an NA on the results.

Can Students Apply for Exemptions From Assignments?

Grade 11 students are eligible to apply for one assignment exemption per subject, per grade.

Grade 11 students can apply for an exemption for a specific assignment within the Assignment section on the Student Portal via the "Overview" field of the desired assignment.

Input your reasoning as to why you need an exemption from this assignment and click "Yes, exempt this assignment."

Students can change their minds and remove the exemption at any time via the Assignment section. If desired, they can also select to exempt a different assignment for the same subject.

For Grade 12, as there are assignments from Terms 1 - 3 only and no assignment in Term 4, Grade 12 students are unable to apply for exemptions.

Storing Assignments

Once the assignment and marking have been completed, we recommend that you store these in a secure location, such as a digital file saved on your device. These documents will also be important if your child decides to go on to do other courses after their senior studies or even apply for a job, traineeship or apprenticeship, etc. It will be useful to have access to examples of their work if requested by external organisations after they finish schooling.

The completed and marked assignments can also be used as work samples for reporting to the home education unit as required.

We hope this article has helped you better understand the assignments/reporting process for the Grade 11 and 12 Euka Assessed/University Program. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
