Does my child need to complete electives? How can I select them?

Updated this week

You may be wondering: does my child need to complete electives, and does Euka offer them?

The answer is yes! Across Australia, students in Grades 9 and 10 are expected to complete electives to help them explore different areas of interest and develop new skills. To assist with this, Euka offers a variety of elective courses so your child can find one that suits their interests!

How Do I Select Electives?

To select electives, check out the following resources:

What If My Child Changes Their Mind?

No worries! If your child decides to switch electives after making a selection, simply:

  1. Log into your Parent Account

  2. Select "Manage Subjects"

  3. Re-select the desired electives

Once updated, the new electives will be uploaded to your child’s Student Portal for immediate access.

Can My Child Complete More Than Two Electives?

Absolutely! Like the rest of our courses, electives are self-paced, so students can work through them at their own speed. This means they can:

  • Complete multiple elective units within a term

  • Take more than two electives per year if they wish

What If My Child Has an Exemption from Completing Electives?

If your child has an exemption from completing all or some electives, that’s no issue with Euka! Simply:

  • Select the required electives (if applicable)

  • Or choose not to select any electives if they are fully exempt

Please Note: Exemptions must be discussed directly with your state’s Department of Education, as they are responsible for granting approvals.

What If I Want to Remove My Child’s Current Electives From Their Student Portal?

If you’d like to remove elective units from your child’s student portal, simply reach out to our support team via email or support chat. Let us know which electives/units you want removed, and we’ll update this for you. Easy!

Will I Need to Report on My Child’s Electives to the Department of Education?

Each state has different requirements regarding elective hours and reporting, but generally, electives are not required for reporting.

Having said that, we recommend students complete electives and retain some work in case it is needed. Keeping a journal, notebook, or digital records (such as Google Drive) with notes, reflections, and key learnings is a great way to track progress.
