Victoria Elective Guidelines

Are you a student or parent in Victoria (VIC) looking to understand elective requirements? Look no further! Victoria has clear guidelines for electives that you should be aware of. Keep reading to learn more.

Choosing Your Electives

Students registering for home schooling in Victoria are required to do at least a single term with one Creative Arts and one Language elective as part of their core studies in each grade.

This means that Grade 9 and 10 students will need to select an elective in the Creative Arts and Language learning areas in order to satisfy Victorian requirements.

Additional Resources for VIC Electives

For more detailed information on electives in VIC, we highly recommend reading the Euka Elective and Short Course Information guide. This comprehensive resource covers everything you need to know about electives.

Victoria Electives FAQ

Q: My student is interested in several electives from your program. Can they choose more than one?

Absolutely! Grade 9 and 10 students are welcome to select additional electives from Euka’s offerings based on their personal interests. They can explore as many options as they'd like from the list of electives available.

Q: We can see Euka offers Spanish as a language, but my student wants to study a different language. Is that possible?

Yes, definitely! While Spanish is the primary language offered within our program, your student can explore other languages through free online courses. Duolingo, for example, offers a wide variety of languages that students can learn at their own pace. You can find Duolingo here.

Additionally, if you prefer another language-learning resource, you’re welcome to purchase and use any program you choose. For your convenience, we’ve included a Language Scope and Sequence document in your full set of Scope and Sequences, accessible via the parent account (under the Student Documents tab) and the Student Portal (under Getting Started Resources).

Q: Can we be exempt from completing Creative Arts and Language electives?

In Victoria, students are required to complete at least one term for each Creative Arts and Language elective. However, if you wish to seek an exemption from these requirements while enrolled in the Euka program, you can contact the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) directly. Inform them that your student is enrolled in the Euka program, and they will guide you through the process of requesting an exemption.

If the exemption is granted by the VRQA, your student can simply dismiss these subjects within their program.
