NSW Elective Guidelines

Are you a student or parent in New South Wales (NSW) looking to understand elective requirements? Look no further! NSW has clear guidelines for electives that you should be aware of. Keep reading to learn more.

Choosing Your Electives

To cover all NSW curriculum requirements, you will need to select two different learning areas and complete at least 4 units for a 100-hour elective (equivalent to 1 year) or 8 units for a 200-hour elective (equivalent to 2 years). These electives are self-paced, so you have the flexibility to work at a faster pace if you choose.

Need help selecting your electives? In order to comply with NESA regulations, you need to choose 2 separate learning areas and an elective in each of them per term. You will need to continue the chosen topic areas for the rest of the year. We also recommend reaching out to your NESA AP to confirm that your elective choices meet curriculum requirements if you are unsure.
