Gifted Student - Adjusted program

I have a gifted and talented student. How can I adjust the program to suit?

The following suggestions are for parents who wish to engage in an accelerated program as opposed to skipping an entire grade level. This may be a good approach if you have some concerns regarding skipping some foundational learning.

You are able to complete all the required work samples for all subjects in the core grade (Grade 1, for example). Mark them and if your student performs well, you have the evidence to show the department that they are demonstrating abilities in alignment with that grade.

You could then begin the next grade early. Work through the first couple of weeks then focus on the work samples for the term. Mark them and if they perform well, move them onto the next term of work early.

In this way, your student may be able to finish the required work for the whole of the year in 6 months (as an example - they may do it earlier or later). Then we begin the grade above and you can approach it in the same way. Focus on the learning that your student needs rather than the activities they are already good at.
