Understanding the G10 Math Program: Standard vs Advanced Option

As a Grade 10 student, you may have the option to choose between the Standard and Advanced Mathematics program. In this article, we will discuss the differences between the two levels and how each can benefit you in your future learning goals.

Standard Option - G10 Math

The Standard Mathematics program gives students the opportunity to participate in the Grade 10 Math program without going into great detail. This level may be more suitable for students who do not find mathematics enjoyable or do not see it as an essential qualification for their future career goals.

For example, if you are not planning on pursuing a career in Science or Engineering, the standard option may be the best fit for you. Additionally, after completing Grade 10, Mathematics is not currently a compulsory subject and can be dropped altogether.

However, students who choose the standard option are still welcome to attempt advanced tasks and may even find that they are able to complete them successfully.

To help you better understand the difference between the two options, let's take a look at an example of a week in the life of a G10 Math student.

A Week in the Life of a G10 Math Student

Students who have chosen the Standard option will familiarise themselves with the lesson content, watch the videos, and read over the concepts. If needed, they can refer to the lesson content or use additional resources, such as a textbook or online resources provided by the program.

Advanced Option - G10 Math

The Advanced Mathematics program is designed for students who want to dive deeper into the Grade 10 Math curriculum and are up for the challenge of honing their skills in multiple areas. This level is most suitable for students who enjoy mathematics or have goals for careers in Science, Engineering, or similar fields.

Additionally, students who choose the advanced option are more likely to continue taking mathematics in senior years and beyond.

Similar to the standard option, students in the advanced program will also familiarise themselves with the lesson content, videos, and concepts. However, they may also choose to take notes and create summary pages for their own reference. Moreover, they will complete all assigned activity sheets and quizzes mentioned in the lessons.
