Understanding the Grade 10 Math Program: Standard vs Advanced Option
As a Grade 10 student, you may have the option to choose between the Standard and Advanced Mathematics program. In this article, we will discuss the differences between the two levels and how each can benefit you in your future learning goals.
Standard Option - Grade 10 Math
The Standard Mathematics program gives students the opportunity to participate in the Grade 10 Math program without going into great detail. This level may be more suitable for students who do not find mathematics enjoyable or do not see it as an essential qualification for their future career goals. It may be helpful to know that after Grade 10, Mathematics is not currently a compulsory subject and can be dropped altogether.
To help you better understand the difference between the two options, let's take a look at an example of a week in the life of a G10 Maths student:-
Standard Option:
Familiarise yourself with the lesson content, watch the videos, and read over the concepts. Select two activity sheets per term to use as work samples. The Alternative Resources (links below) can support you in your learning.
Use the Mathspace lesson links to consolidate your understanding. Remember, completing the activity sheets is optional (aside from the work samples).
Advanced Option
The Advanced Mathematics program is designed for students who want to dive deeper into the Grade 10 Maths curriculum and are up for the challenge of honing their skills in multiple areas. This level is most suitable for students who enjoy Mathematics or have goals for careers in Science, Engineering, or similar fields. Additionally, students who choose the advanced option are more likely to continue taking Mathematics in senior years and beyond.
Similar to the standard option, students in the advanced program will also familiarise themselves with the lesson content, videos, and concepts. However, they may also choose to take notes and create summary pages for their own reference. Moreover, they will complete all assigned activity sheets and quizzes mentioned in the lessons.
