Standard Option - Grade 9 Math
Standard Mathematics is designed to give students the opportunity to explore the Grade 9 Math program without going into too much detail. This option is recommended for students who may not enjoy Mathematics or who don't see it as an essential subject for their future.
It's important to remember that once you complete your Grade 10 studies and move on to your senior years of schooling, Mathematics is not a compulsory subject anymore. However, we recommend that students still consider whether Maths could be a prerequisite subject for their post school plans.
Even if you choose the Standard option, you are still welcome to try out the advanced sheets and join the Grade 9 Advanced Maths option. You can even select Maths as a senior subject if you feel comfortable with it later on.
A Week in the Life of a Grade 9 Math Student: Standard vs Advanced
Standard Option: Familiarise yourself with the lesson content, watch the videos, and read over the concepts. Select two "Maths in Action" (Maths in Focus etc.) activity pages to complete and refer to the lesson content for help. The Alternative Resources (links below) can support you in your learning.
Use the Mathspace lesson links to consolidate your understanding. Remember, completing the activity sheets is largely optional, apart from those mentioned above.
Advanced Option: Familiarise yourself with the lesson content, watch the videos, and read over the concepts. You may want to take notes and create summary pages to help you understand the material better. The Alternative Resources (links below) can support you in your learning.
Use the Mathspace lesson links to consolidate your understanding. Complete all the activity sheets provided (or modified versions as determined by your home educator).
