Home Education Registration Renewal Requirements

Parents of currently registered students are required to apply for renewal of their registration at least three months before their current registration expires. This date is written on your child’s home education registration certificate. However, you can also reach out to the Department if you need to confirm the date. The Euka registration service can be utilised to fast track the documentation required. Alternatively you are welcome to use your Scope and Sequences and complete this process yourself.

Note: Under the Education Act 2004 and Education Regulations 2005, registration renewal may be approved without a meeting with an ACT Education Directorate Authorised Person.

For example, approval without a meeting may be made where the parent has provided clear evidence of full compliance with the conditions of registration (including the home education report requirements) as part of the application. The Home Education team will let parents know if a meeting is required.

Home Education Report Requirements

Home-educating parents are required to submit a home education report for each registered child once a year, by no later than 31 December. Home education reports detail the progress children have made in the areas of:

Parents can choose to use an optional template from the Home Education team or provide a report in a format of their choosing. Work Samples and completed Parent Assessment Checklists will also be required.

Parents can request support, and/or further information from the Home Education Liaison Officer when writing their home education reports and for further details on reporting requirements.
