Updated over a month ago

Introduction

Are you considering homeschooling your child in Tasmania? We are here to guide you through each step. In this article, we will outline the registration process with the Office of the Education Registrar and provide additional resources to help you along the way.

Home Education Summary and Program (HESP)

The first thing to note is that you must have your Home Education Summary and Program (HESP) in place when you apply for homeschooling. This document outlines your plan for your child's education and must meet the requirements and standards set by the Office of the Education Registrar.

Euka's Government Registration service support your own HESP development, however any documents created by these services will not receive approval from the Office of the Education Registrar in Tasmania if submitted directly. They can still serve as a valuable resource to draw upon when creating your HESP.

If you are not sure where to start, don't worry! You can locate very helpful resources available on both the OER & THEAC websites. You can download their helpful template and guide here.

Submitting Your Application

Once you have your HESP ready, it's time to submit your application for homeschooling. The registration process requires parents to fill out and submit the HESP themselves, using their own personal research and reflection.

The first step is to download the Homeschooling Registration Application from the Office of the Education Registrar website. This is where you'll officially submit your application for homeschooling.

The team at Euka is not able to assist with the specific registration documents, however, we do have helpful resources, including example HESPs, to guide you along the way.

The Assessment Process

You'll have 4-6 weeks after being granted provisional registration to begin homeschooling before your program is assessed. This gives you enough time to get started and make any necessary adjustments before a decision is made.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us for assistance.

Additional Resources

Please visit the OER and/or THEAC websites for further guidance and information around registration in Tasmania.

You can also refer to their HESP examples here: Example 1 and Example 2.

Happy homeschooling!
